LIMITED-EDITION NIKE BOSTON MARATHON ILLUSTRATIONS
In celebration of the 129th Boston Marathon, I was approached to design 10-12 graphics that highlight the unique traits and experiences of Boston, while celebrating the marathon runners.
They were used during marathon weekend in the flagship Nike Store on Newbury St in Boston. People were able to select a shirt or hoodie then up to 4 designs to customize their apparel.

I was given the following restraints as I came up with the designs:
No Boston landmarks
Scalability for 3”, 6”, and 10” sizes
Legibility on white, gray, and black backgrounds (with an emphasis on darker surfaces)
Use Nike’s color palette of White, Black, and Red
I kicked off the project by sending over 15 sketches within a day. So much of Boston is represented through landmarks, which forced me to really dig deep. I played with the things locals would appreciate along with things tourists may enjoy as well. This included The Boston Teaparty, a Shamrock, Iced Coffee, Lobsters, Boston Terrier, Paul Revere, etc.
After narrowing it down to 10, I spent the next few days refining and coloring them. Some feedback came through to add more Nike swooshes throughout so I worked to integrate them within each design.
LET’S TEAM UP
I’m always looking for new opportunities and am comfortable working with teams big and small to bring your ideas to life.
